Kashmir prays for Pakistan
Srinagar, Thursday, February 29, 2008:
People in Indian administered Kashmir offered special prayers for peace and stability of Pakistan on Friday.
The special prayers were offered in various mosques across Kashmir Valley for peace and stability of Pakistan.
The religious group Jamiat-i-Ahlihadees Kashmir organised the prayers, in response to a call by the hardline faction of separatist alliance All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
Political developments in Pakistan are known to have direct and indirect influence on the situation in Indian administered Kashmir, where an anti-India insurgency broke out in 1989.
Both India and Pakistan claim Jammu and Kashmir in full and control portions divided by a ceasefire line.
The general elections were recently held in Pakistan prior to which over 400 people were killed in different incidents of violence during the election campaigning of the different political parties.
The former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated during an election campaign rally of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which won most seats in the election.
The people in Kashmir prayed for the immediate return of peace in Pakistan and in the entire Muslim world.
The APHC's hardline faction had asked all the people in Kashmir to pray in mosques on Friday afternoon for Pakistan's stability.
The clerics in Kashmir touched the Pakistan's political situation in their Friday sermons and everyone prayed for the country's peace.
