Kashmir Govt forbids Tibetan refugees from raising anti-China slogans
Srinagar, March 26, 2008:
The Indian administered Kashmir government forbade permission to Tibetan refugees here to raise slogans against the Chinese government.
The Tibetan refugees in Kashmir today staged a protest demonstration at Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, against Beijing for the mass killings of Tibetans.
A Tibetan refugee in Srinagar Norgay said: "We did not get permission to raise slogans against the Chinese government. So we thought to offer prayers for ending darkness in Tibet."
In the recent violence in Tibet, which broke out on March 10, 2008, at least 135 peaceful Tibetans were killed and more than 500 injured.
In March 1959, Tibetans rose up against China.
The uprising was brutally crushed and the Tibetan leader, Dalai Lama XIV escaped to India, followed by more than 80,000 Tibetans.
Tens of thousands of Tibetans who stayed in Tibet were killed or imprisoned.
Untold numbers, at least hundreds of thousands, of Tibetans have died as a direct result of China's policies since 1949 through starvation, torture and execution.
"We want China to stop persecution and cultural genocide of innocent Tibetan's and allow free press to cover the whole of Tibet immediately," Norgay said.
